Golf on Madeira

Madeira is a golf destination par excellence. The tradition of this sport on the island dates back to 1937, when the Englishmen Miles, Leacock and Blandy built the first nine-hole golf course.

Thanks to the excellent year-round climate, this sport has grown and consolidated itself, to the point where the two islands that make up the archipelago have three magnificent golf courses that have attracted golfers from all over the world.

  • Santo da Serra Golf Club

Built in 1937, at an altitude of 700 meters, the Santo da Serra Golf Club is beautiful, with natural lakes, trees and flowering shrubs, three 9-hole combinations (Desertas, Machico and Serras). This venue, equipped with a restaurant, has hosted the most prestigious PGA tournaments in Madeira and offers unlimited special golf packages.

The golf course offers individual and group lessons and club hire, buggies and trolleys.

  • Palheiro Golf

This incredible 18-hole course has breathtaking views over the bay of Funchal and is made up of an extensive pine forest, a grove of trees and lush vegetation. It is one of the most famous courses, with a game suitable for all levels of experience, having been distinguished in 2009 by Golf World UK as one of the 100 best European courses.

The clubhouse has a typical Madeiran design, 500 meters above sea level, with a panoramic terrace with spectacular views over the Atlantic. The facilities include a driving range, putting green, chipping green with bunkers, 6-hole academy course, practice nets, pro-shop, restaurant and bar, as well as individual and group lessons.

  • Porto Santo Golf

Located on the island of the same name, the Porto Santo golf course has 18 holes and was designed by Severiano Ballesteros in a 6 par 3, 6 par 4 and 6 par 5 format, giving the course a par 72.

The course also includes a 9-hole par 3 course with all exits and arrivals next to the ClubHouse. The Porto Santo Golf Club House is a beautiful building, perfectly integrated into the landscape and offering views over the course.
